Artificial Grass Pasadena

Beautiful Yards Get used More Often!

Maintaining your Pasadena Artificial Grass

Maintaining artificial grass installed in your Pasadena home is a fairly easy process. Caring for your new synthetic turf will only add years and enjoyment to your investment.

Here's some simple tips for keeping your new yard always looking green.

Leaves and twigs

Normally a blower would be used to remove leaves and tree droppings from your natural grass. Though a blower can be used on artificial grass, we recommend using brooms or a green rake, depending on the size of your artificial turf.

The reason why we don’t recommend using a blower on synthetic turf is because of the infill. If your turf was professionally installed, an infill was power brushed into the turf blades. The purpose of artificial grass infill is to keep the turf blades upright and to weight down the surface of the turf.

Using a blower on artificial turf can disrupt the uniformity of the infill. Blowers are usually pointed straight down so the air pressure pushes the infill up into the air or in piles inside the turf.

If you must use a blower, skim the surface of the turf rather than pointing it downward. An electric or rechargeable blower is recommended due to the emissions and gas usage of gasoline powered blowers.

Dust and debris

Dust and debris may build up on your artificial turf depending on your proximity to highways, freeways, construction sites, or high wind areas. Simply rinse your turf down every so often to keep your turf looking fresh and new.

Weeds

Weed control around artificial grass is one of the most asked questions. If your turf was professionally installed, a dry preemergent is laid down before the base is installed. The preemergent keeps the weed seed from germination. A weed screen is then installed before or after the base is laid. I personally prefer the weed screen below the base.

However, as you’ve probably seen, weeds can sprout through concrete, walls, pretty much everywhere. Weed problems vary depending on your neighborhood and surrounding area. If your neighbor’s yards are full of weeds, or they are constantly removing weeds, then your neighborhood is most likely in an area where weeds are being blown in by some other area.

One of the advantages of artificial grass installation in your Fullerton home is to keep toxic fertilizers, pesticides, and lawn maintenance chemicals from harming your pets and family. All our artificial turf products are tested lead and toxin free, so using a pesticide negates this benefit.

Simply pull the weeds as you see them appear. This might only take 5-10 minutes a month depending on your neighborhood. My neighborhood does not have a weed problem, so I spend about 5-10 minutes every 3-4 months or so.

Food and beverage spills

The turf we install is the best on the market; it begs to be used! Have your picnics and family get togethers on your new artificial turf. Setting up chairs and tables won’t damage your turf. There’s bound to be some beverages spilled and food dropped. Most food items can be rinsed away easily. If you run to a stubborn stain, spray a little Simple Green on it, rinse and rub if necessary.

Pet odor

You might notice odors accumulation on your artificial pet turf. Our professional pet turf installation includes odor control infill between the turf and the base, and the same odor control infill combined with an antimicrobial infill is used for the infill.

The concentration of odors will vary depending on the age, size, and quantity of pets, (older dogs urinate much more than younger dogs). Keep a bottle of Simple Green Outdoor Odor Eliminator on hand. It can be found at most hardware stores or on Amazon.

Simply sweep away the debris from that spot, spray the cleaner or mix a concentrated amount in a bucket, and rinse the foam to the edges of the turf.

Every 2-4 years you may want to have us come out and deodorize and power brush new pet infill into your pet turf, depending on the variables noted above.
